Hello, I'm
Golam Wasy
<Software Engineer /> Backend-first, full-stack capable. Building reliable systems and tools people actually rely on.
#About.system

➜ whoami
Software Engineer, mostly backend with Java and Spring Boot, and comfortable on the frontend with React and TypeScript. I care about reliable, well tested code, and I support what I ship in production. My Master's research on anomaly detection taught me to dig into a problem properly before building.
➜ cat mission.txt
Turning complex business requirements into working software. REST APIs across microservices with Kafka and PostgreSQL on the backend, React and TypeScript on the frontend, with JUnit, Mockito, contract tests and Playwright to keep it honest, and CI/CD, Docker and on-call to keep it running.

Associate Software Engineer @ Ritchie Bros.
Built internal apps for post-sale work: customer accounts, support, invoices, refunds and sale adjustments. Built and maintained a refund and reallocation system with multiple payments, approvals and audit logging, and developed Spring Boot REST APIs for sale and tax adjustments with permission-based approval flows, across microservices talking over REST and Kafka. Moved heavy data processing to the backend with efficient pagination and search, shipped behind LaunchDarkly flags and Drools rules, fixed Snyk vulnerabilities and upgraded services to a new major Spring Boot version. On the frontend, redesigned Retool apps and helped plan and start the migration to React and TypeScript, with Playwright tests. Deployed through CircleCI, debugged with Honeycomb and was part of the monthly on-call rotation.
Research Assistant (Master's Thesis) @ University of Helsinki
Evaluated how adaptive normalization techniques affect the accuracy of anomaly detection models. Built data processing services in Python and FastAPI to run the evaluations, and compared models implemented in PyTorch and TensorFlow on real-world time series data from telecommunications networks and IoT sensors.
Research Assistant (Intern) @ University of Helsinki & Nokia Bell Labs
Joint research project on data efficiency techniques for mobile networks, with the Network Systems and Security Research Lab and Nokia's Network Operation department. Built the research foundation for my thesis: studied adaptive normalization techniques, evaluated datasets and worked with real mobile network data, including incomplete transmissions.
Software Developer (Freelance) @ Wavelet Solutions Sdn. Bhd.
Freelance work on client projects across backend, web and mobile. Built REST APIs in Java and Spring Boot with PostgreSQL and implemented JWT authentication for a client. Extended an Angular admin console, built a customer feedback feature in an Ionic app from UI to backend, and integrated Google Maps to show car dealer locations. Worked directly with enterprise clients on requirements.
Software Developer (Intern) @ BigLedger Sdn. Bhd.
My first proper backend role. Integrated APIs with Spring Boot, wrote MySQL migration scripts and Java unit tests before work reached client servers, and deployed applications to client servers on AWS in an agile team using Git, Jira and Confluence.

Clearpath
Aug 2026Distributed platform with Kotlin/Ktor services, a Go service and a TypeScript/React web app, using PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB and Kafka on Docker and Kubernetes. Built by directing an AI agent, with the service boundaries, data invariants and tests designed and reviewed by me. Self-hosted on my own Linux server.
Planora
Oct 2026AI project planner: describe a project and Gemini drafts the tasks, owners, effort estimates, dependencies, milestones and risks. Every AI answer is validated, then a deterministic scheduling engine forecasts dates against the team's real availability, with what-if scenarios to test changes. Self-hosted on my own Linux server.
ScanUp
Oct 2026iPhone app that shows the aircraft flying over you in real time, plus airport departure and arrival boards and live flight search. Built in SwiftUI with a small private FastAPI backend that merges free ADS-B feeds with a schedule provider, caches aggressively to stay inside free quotas, and is self-hosted on my own server.
